How to make a Estilo Viejo/ Tequila Old Fashioned

One of the great things about classic cocktails such as the Old Fashioned, is that they constantly inspire modern variations. The Estilo Viejo is based on the relatively simple principle of the Old Fashioned, which relies on just a spirit (traditionally whiskey), sugar, and some bitters as ingredients. The Estilo Viejo (Spanish for Old Fashioned) uses this Old Fashioned-principle, but relies on high quality tequila as the base spirit.Tequilla old fashioned

This is a great cocktail for people who prefer to drink their tequilas neat, and it’s not a difficult one to create at home.

Recipe

Aged reposado tequila adds smooth vanilla notes to a light, citrusy twist on a classic old fashioned.

  • 50ml reposado tequila (we recommend Herradura Añejo)
  • 10ml agave nectar
  • 1-2 dashes bitters (Angostura)

Stir all ingredients in a glass with ice cubes for around 30 seconds – the dilution of the drink is essential to get the correct taste. Serve in an old fashioned glass filled with ice and and garnish with orange or grapefruit peel.
